Jack had been keeping himself busy on the bridge. It was all he could do really. It hadn't been that long after Ashley had left with Rue to get her started on morphs. He was here to keep an eye for a signal from Kyle's earpiece. There was still nothing, but it had only been minutes. Still every minute longer they didn't get a signal, not only meant they weren't any closer to rescuing Kyle, but also he was closer to being trapped in morph. Eric had kept coming up to him, telling him to go take a break but he just couldn't do that. It was his call, his responsibility to make sure he got back safe and sound.
So, Eric backed off after about the fifth time he tried to tell Jack to take a break. He would rest once they knew Kyle was safe. He sat at one of the consoles, opposite of Eric who was doing his own thing to keep himself ready for the signal. Jack stared at his, continuously searching a map of Seattle. Of course it wouldn't matter until Kyle demorphed. He sighed after awhile. "C'mon, Kyle..." he muttered to himself. There was still nothing. It was frustrating, who knew what was happening to Kyle right now. However, he couldn't do much else but wait.

Sam had heard about the trouble Kyle had gotten himself into, it unnerved her to no end. What was he thinking?! For the love of God he was going to get himself killed these days, or worse. He could get stuck in morph like Tobias had. The girl sighed, running a hand through her hair as she made her way toward the bridge. Eric had told her that Jack was not taking this well, that he would not leave the bridge, and it worried her. Jack was a very caring person and since his best friend was the one in danger, well... Sam figured that Jack may need someone to look after him for once.
"Jack?" she asked, keeping her voice down as she entered the bridge. She knew he was under a lot of stress, but he really needed to take a break or it would drive him crazy. The girl wandered over to her friend, nodding to Eric on her way there, and soon she placed her head on the boy's. Looking at the map of Seattle, the girl scrutinized the object for any sign of their friend, but sighed when nothing came up. "You are going to drive yourself nuts staring at this thing... Take a break... Kyle wouldn't want you to tire yourself out before you have to swoop in and save him. Besides, who's gonna keep me in line when we have to go get him? You can't do it when you're tired," she teased, trying to get the boy to loosen up a bit. Her words were quiet, but she kept herself calm. For Jack.

Jack heard a voice call out his name, but it barely registered. He was focused on the screen looking for any change at all that would give them any clue as to where Kyle was. Then they could be done with all this waiting and finally rescue him. He hated not being able to do anything, so here he was at least pretending like what he was doing was getting them closer to a rescue. He soon felt pressure on the top of his head, though he didn't pay much attention to it. He did once the person spoke up though.
It was Samantha. She was telling him to rest up, like Eric had been a few moments ago. He leaned back taking his eyes off the monitor for a moment, rubbing at his eyes. He knew he was working himself too hard right now, but he couldn't wait around. "I know," he responded calmly. "I just can't sit around and do nothing while he's out there," He appreciated what she was trying to do though. He gave her a small smirk. "Though I can still keep you in line even if I am tired," he teased back, though the smirk quickly faded. He was obviously worried and, now that Ashley wasn't around, it showed quite easily. He had reassured her that they would get him back, but that didn't mean he didn't have doubts. No, he couldn't have doubts, they would find him. They had to.

"I just can't sit around and do nothing while he's out there,"
"It's not nothing... Think of it this way. Sleeping makes you more ready to fight the controllers, ergo in a way it is like training. If it is like training, then you ARE doing something. Am I right?" she asked, looking down at him and smiling. Jack took things too seriously, he needed to learn not to push himself past his limits. It would only hurt him in the end.
"Though I can still keep you in line even if I am tired,"
"Pssh. I doubt it. That's more Ashley or Kyle's job when you're tired," she chuckled, placing her chin on his head. She could see his smirk fade in his reflection on the screen and she frowned. She sighed, pulling her head off of Jack's and placing her hands on his shoulders. Giving his shoulders a squeeze, she soon started massaging them lightly. Jack needed to calm down, it was never good to see your leader falling apart and since Sam happened to be the only one around, she would have to put the pieces together. "We're gonna get him back. Don't worry. If you want I will be one of the first to go after him and get him back, but I will only do that for you if you go take a nap or something."
Finishing the massage to his shoulders, the girl draped her arms over them from behind and placed her head on his once again. "Everything's going to be fine, Jack. You just need to believe," she murmured, giving him a quick squeeze and soon she gave him a good smack to get him out of the chair. "Move. Go sleep. I'm taking over. If you won't sleep then you can sit here and watch with me but I'm taking your chair. Get up. Don't make me pull out my battle morph."

Jack listened to her and while her logic did kind of make sense it was still something he didn't really want to do. After all he couldn't rest. He had promised Ashley he'd let her know the minute they had gotten a signal. He couldn't just go and take a nap, knowing his luck it would happen while he was sleeping. Soon, he felt Sam's chin rise from his head and soon felt her hands on his shoulders. He stared at the screen as she massaged them, listening to her reassuring that they'd get him back. "I know we will. Doesn't stop me from worrying though," he told her.
Sam soon stopped and then rested on his head again. Then he felt her hit him and tell him to move and get sleep or at least get out of the chair. "Hey, who's the leader here?" he asked a bit jokingly, before sighing and conceding. He got up and motioned for her to sit down as he stood behind the chair. "I can't rest up yet. I promised Ashley I'd let her know the minute we heard something," He gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll get some rest once we rescue him, promise." He really did appreciate her efforts, at least she could help distract him so he wouldn't worry too much.
He then heard across the way "Jeez, I was at it for at least 20 minutes trying to convince him. Who knew all I had to do was give him a massage and he'd instantly move. Would have saved me the trouble," Of course that voice was Eric's. Jack gave a bit of a sigh, but then grinned. "Now you know what to do in case it happens again," he retorted back to him. "Uh-huh, I will get right on that next time," Eric replied back though now sounding more focused on...whatever he was doing currently. It was good they all had a sense of humor or else they would all probably have gone nuts by now.

"I know we will. Doesn't stop me from worrying though,,"
Sam rolled her eyes, blowing her bangs out of her face. "I think your problem is you worry too much about how your girlfriend's feeling about this and you worry twice as much as a result," she commented. Sure, she was only a little jealous that it seemed he and Ashley were an item, but it was mostly because there was no time for relationships. They had a job to do and making connections like that gets in the way. That, and the fact that Sam probably never had a boy that was more than a friend kind of annoyed her.
"Hey, who's the leader here?"
"You, till I kick you out of the chair, then it's me" she snickered, sitting down as she stared back up at him with a raise of her eyebrow. He was trying to reassure her, but all she heard coming out of his mouth was Ashley, Ashley Ashley. Geez. Hung up on a girl much? Whatever. Sam rolled her eyes and stared at the screen, pulling one of the random chairs nearby over and gave it a firm pat to signal that Jack was to sit there if he was not going to go nap.
"Jeez, I was at it for at least 20 minutes trying to convince him. Who knew all I had to do was give him a massage and he'd instantly move. Would have saved me the trouble,"
"Well I guess I have a certain charm he listens to. Besides, I like to think I'm cuter than you are, therefore I get away with more," she grinned, sticking her tongue out at Eric, who chuckled and shook his head as he went back to whatever the heck it was he was doing. Her dark eyes wandered back to Jack, watching him closely as she sighed. "Jack, seriously. I can tell Ashley if we see anything. I'm worried about you..."
Jack was one of the few Animorphs that Sam would let see the softer side of her, which was fine with her. She liked it that way. Less people to get attached to. Her eyebrows furrowed together as she watched him. She did not like it when someone she cared about was upset. Sure, she was worried too, but Kyle is Jack's best friend. Therefore, Jack would definitely be worried about him, but then he had the added stress of Ashley. That was never fun. The brunette sighed, staring at the screen but keeping Jack in her peripheral vision. Maybe if they all stayed silent Jack would fall asleep like she wanted him to do.

Jack couldn't help but grin. Sam really hit the nail on the head. Except for that whole Ashley being his girlfriend part. He was worrying enough for the both of them, especially with her not around to see him do so. "Okay, you caught me. Except she isn't my girlfriend. That was way too long a time ago," he told her. There was no denying though he still had a soft spot for her, but he was pretty sure that ship had sailed. He chuckled along with her when she said she was in charge once she kicked him out of his chair. Though she was nice enough to bring over another chair for him to sit in.
He sat down in it right next to her, both of them able to look at the screen. He couldn't help but smile at Sam's response to Eric and her sticking her tongue out at him. "Guilty as charged," he joked in agreement. "Add that to what you need to do next time too. Be cuter," He could hear Eric sigh from across the room. Thankfully, he didn't bother with a comeback. He was probably too focused on whatever he was doing.
They both stayed there for a moment before Sam told him to go ahead and get some rest again. He gave her a small smirk "Don't worry, I'm fine. I mean it," he reassured again. Though shortly after he spoke is when Eric decided to speak up again. "How bout you two just get a room already?" he asked aloud, sounding a bit annoyed. That threw Jack off a little bit. He wasn't expecting that and turned to face Eric. Eric didn't even turn around to face him. "Just saying is all!" he added, obviously pleased with himself.

"Okay, you caught me. Except she isn't my girlfriend. That was way too long a time ago,"
Rolling her eyes once again, the brunette gave him a look that expressed how she did not believe him and continued. "Yeah yeah. Whatever you say Blue Eyes," she retorted. It was obvious he still had some sort of feelings for Ashley, but it made her feel a little better that Jack considered that to be in the past. Besides, she can't stay mad at him when he was grinning like that. That was like kicking a puppy.
"Add that to what you need to do next time too. Be cuter,"
"I think it is QUITE impossible to be as cute as me. I mean, come on. I can morph into a golden retriever. Nobody can resist MY puppy dog face," she added with a mischievous grin on her face. She loved poking fun at Eric, especially when he was too busy to gave her a comeback. Then again, when he was not busy he would get back at her for all the comments she had said earlier. Oh joy, that was something to look forward to.
"Don't worry, I'm fine. I mean it,"
"How bout you two just get a room already?"
"How about you get a life other than just tossing out comments from the peanut gallery?!" she roared, turning a dark pink in the face as she glared at Eric. He knew that the girl was slightly attracted to their blue-eyed leader, and he took every opportunity to tease her about it when Jack was not around. She refused to get her hopes up about anything going on with the two of them since the whole thing with Ashley. She still did not know all the details, but that was one of the VERY few things she did not push her friends on. She did not want to know, nor did she want to upset them, so ignorance was bliss in that situation. The girl crossed her arms over her chest, grumbling in annoyance as she sensed Eric was rather pleased with himself. Her eyes narrowed and she soon glared at the screen just for the hell of it. "Geez, what crawled up your butt today? Hopefully not a Yeerk because that is definitely NOT the end they are supposed to enter from."

Sam seemed to dismiss Jack's constant claims that he was fine. He really was, granted he was still a bit worried but he was still overall fine. It just seemed Sam had already made up her mind and he couldn't say anything that would change it. He wouldn't push it any further, but that didn't mean he was going to go rest right now. He probably wouldn't be able to anyway, his thoughts would be too focused on Kyle. At least here he was distracted from thinking too much about it. Though if he did go at least he wouldn't have to deal with Eric.
It seemed Sam was surprised by Eric's comment as well. She had turned pink in the face and had yelled in his direction, though Eric just laughed. Jack looked back over at Sam as she now glared at the screen. She yelled at Eric again, though he didn't say anything. He was still chuckling. He obviously felt as though he had won and now was solely focused on his work. "Don't let him get to you," Jack said to Sam trying to get her to calm down. "He should at least be quiet for now," He then turned towards Eric. "Isn't that right, Eric?" he yelled over to him. Eric mumbled something but it seemed more like he was talking to himself.
He gave another grin over to Sam. "See? He's don-" he started to say before Eric yelled back over again. "Seriously though, if you two start making out, get a room! I need to be able to concentrate in here," Jack just sighed. Of course, he couldn't just drop it. It was times like these he really wished he could just drop Eric off somewhere, but as annoying as he could be at times they really made use of his technological knowledge. In the long run that was more important. Which Jack had to constantly remind himself of.

"Don't let him get to you,"
Brown eyes focused on the boy, scrutinizing him. He was trying to calm her, and unfortunately it was working. The girl sighed and leaned back in the chair, closing her eyes as she listened to the two of them. "if you say so, Jack" she sighed.
"See? He's don-"
"Seriously though, if you two start making out, get a room! I need to be able to concentrate in here,"
"Oh my GOD Eric! Stop acting like a jealous teenage girl! If you want someone to make out with him then why don't YOU do it?!" she demanded, whirling around in her chair and glaring at the techie. She did not care that Jack was right there. At least, not now. The girl stood from her chair and turned to face Eric. "Either ya stop being a pain or I'll rip your guts out one gut at a time."
A low growl sounded in her throat as Sam started to feel herself morph into her golden retriever form. She would not use her battle morph on Eric, but if he pushed her buttons enough she'd bite him in her dog form.

Jack was so close to calming Sam down. Of course Eric had to say one more thing, didn't know when to drop it. He was about to tell him he was out of line but before he could say anything Sam had yelled at him again. Then whirled around to face him and got out of the chair. This wasn't going to end well if he didn't do something. Eric didn't face either of them, but still replied. "Sorry, he isn't my type," It was at this point he noticed Sam starting to change. It was only her dog morph, but he needed to step in.
He stood between the two. "Take it easy," he told her calmly, but firmly. "He's not worth it," He then heard Eric take a breath and Jack stopped him. "You're done, Eric. That's enough," There was a pause as if he was still going to say something, but changed his mind and just went back to working. Hopefully that was enough to calm her down. "He's done now, for real this time," he told Sam again, though at the same time had a tone directed towards Eric that said "Don't start anything else up right now," Though Jack had to admit he was surprised to see her so worked up over what Eric said. He wasn't nearly as riled up, but then again he took pretty much any of Eric's colorful commentary in stride.

"Take it easy. He's not worth it,"
Sam was almost completely morphed at that point, the dog growling at Eric as he opened his mouth to say something. As she felt her tail form and stick out to match her barred teeth and narrowed eyes, the golden retriever's ears perked up once Jack spoke up again.
"You're done, Eric. That's enough."
The dog kept her stance, in case the boy had decided to go against Jack's orders and taunt her again. She sensed he was going to say more and another growl escaped her throat, but thankfully Eric decided to stay quiet and go back to his work. She did not trust the techie completely, her expression rather wary of the other male as she watched Jack turn to her and address her once again.
"He's done now, for real this time,"
The dog seemed to raise an eyebrow, still not entirely sure of Eric's intentions. She heard the tone in his voice. The comforting edge of it was directed towards her, but there was a bit of something else directed toward Eric. With that, Samantha deduced that Jack was on her side for this and the dog soon sniffed triumphantly. She placed her furry head against Jack's palm, giving an apologetic whine and soon padded back to her chair, tail in the air, plopping her furry behind into her seat and staring at the monitor. She did not feel like explaining to Jack why she blew up, but now she felt bad that he'd seen her lose her temper.

Jack sighed a breath of relief when Sam seemed to calm down. She had managed to fully morph into her golden retriever, but she didn't go for Eric at all. She whined and placed her head against Jack's hand before going back and sitting down in the chair, still morphed. Frankly, even if he was used to all the ways they tended to make animals seem more human when they were morphed, it was still odd to see Sam as a dog plop down into a chair. Go team.. he thought to himself. Thankfully he had managed to avert a potential fight, but now Sam was upset.
He went over and sat back down next to her. He wasn't going to tell her to demorph or anything, from what he had heard dog minds tended to be super happy and were a easy to get lost in. Maybe it would be enough to get her less upset. He put his hand on her head and then scratched lightly behind her ear. "Don't worry so much about him, he just likes to rile people up," he told her. "He's a softie at heart," he then grinned and then whispered. "At least so I'm told," Hopefully that was enough to calm her down or at least to somewhat put her at ease. He then took his hand off her and looked back at the screen. Still nothing. He frowned slightly. Where are you Kyle?

"Don't worry so much about him, he just likes to rile people up. He's a softie at heart. At least so I'm told,"
The dog felt him scratch behind her ear, leaning into his touch as she whined lightly. She felt a little better now that Jack did not seem angry, but she kept herself in her doggy form for now. She felt his hand leave her head and he stared at the screen again, the Animorph mentally sighing as she plopped down onto the ground and placed her muzzle on his knee. <Do I get to kick Kyle's ass for him getting into trouble and worrying you so much? Please? I don't like it when all of us are so riled up because we can't find someone.>
The dog felt her tail wag as her mind started to revert to the mind of the dog. She wanted to play ball and chase things all over the bridge now, but she shook her head as she plopped herself back into her chair so Jack could not take it and slowly demorphed. If she was to go and get Kyle, she would need the full 2 hours just in case something happened.
Once she felt herself back in her human form, she stretched her limbs and sighed. "I swear, if he does not signal us in the next ten minutes I will go where he was last seen and drag him back myself," she growled, glaring at the screen. Now she was worried, and when she was worried she got annoyed. This was never fun. Stupid Kyle, getting himself into trouble.

Jack soon felt Sam's muzzle on his knee as she asked if she could kick Kyle's ass for being kidnapped. He smirked down towards her but shook his head. "Its not his fault. I don't think he'd appreciate the sentiment," he told her. He was glad to see her concerned though, it at least meant he wasn't the only one completely worried. Sam soon demorphed and stretched out a bit. She was glaring at the screen again. "I hope it'll be in the next ten minutes, that would be a huge relief," he replied.
Jack had a feeling it would take awhile for Kyle's signal to finally show, but he had hoped it wouldn't take this long. They didn't know for sure where in the city he would be lead to or who he would run into. They still weren't sure if those Yeerks had been working for The One or not. There was just so much they didn't know that it was frustrating. The most frustrating part though was they couldn't do anything right now. Nothing but sit and wait for a signal. Then they could spring into action.
He looked back over at Sam and could tell she was getting antsy. They all were, every minute they didn't hear from Kyle was another minute wasted that could have helped to save him. Maybe Sam had a point in taking a break from this. He got up and motioned for Sam to follow him. "C'mon, maybe you had a good point. Let's take a break from the screen and the bridge," He looked over to Eric. "You keep an eye on things, make sure you let me and Ashley know that signal comes in," Eric didn't turn around like always, but gave him a thumbs up to signal he heard him. He turned back to Sam. "Sound good?"
