The animal reserve was very peaceful. Especially since there were no controllers that were running around. It was one of the few places on earth where there ARE no controllers. Sam was rather fond of that area, especially since that was where some of her morphs came from, and soon she found herself wandering along the reserve. She was not meeting up with anyone, she just needed some quiet time.
Dark eyes settled upon an enclosure that held the dogs and Sam felt a smile tug at her lips. The golden retriever was her land morph, and one of her favorites. The girl wandered over to the canines and was soon greeted by her loyal pet, Sandy. Sandy had followed her from home when she came back to see if everything was alright after she became an animorph, and has not left Sam's side since.
The girl was practically tackled by the furry creature, causing her to laugh and hug the dog around her neck. "Sandy!" she squeaked, feeling her dog push her to the ground and soon she groaned as her pet soon sat on her abdomen. Sandy was not a small dog, not anymore at least, and a huge dog sitting on her stomach was not comfortable. The girl coughed, chuckling lightly as she felt Sandy's tail start to wag and the dog looked at her like that one from that Disney movie with the talking dogs. She could practically hear Sandy talking to her, her silly expression practically screamed "HI THERE!" and you just wanted to love that poor dog to pieces.
Sam laughed, giving Sandy a nudge and soon the dog took the hint and got off her owner, panting in excitement as Sam soon sat up and pat the spot beside her. Sandy gratefully padded over and plopped herself down beside Sam, the golden animal cuddling into her mistress and her tail continued to wag in excitement. It had been a few days since Sam had last visited her dog, but so much had been happening that the girl felt she did not have time to visit Sandy. "I missded you! Yes I did! Did you miss me?!" Samantha cooed. That voice people pulled out when talking to animals or small children? Baby talk? Yup. Sam did that with her animals. At least, she did with Sandy. She could be affectionate when she wanted to be damn it! She just did not have to show it!
Soon Sam sensed someone was nearby, and the brunette tensed up as Sandy growled at the unexpected newcomer. It had to be an animorph, since controllers were not allowed in this area, and Sam sighed, not turning from her faithful pet. "Show yourself or I'll sick Sandy on you."

Javier stepped out from the tree he was standing behind, a grin on his face and a sack of dog food slung over his shoulder. "Relax, it's just me," he said, as much to Sandy as to Sam. "Dogs need their chow, don't they?" Already several other canines were circling him eager to eat what he was carrying.
Sam was someone he knew, but not very well yet. He didn't know many of the other animorphs very well yet, actually. Thus far he had mostly only gotten to know other people who worked closely with the animals in the reserve. It probably wouldn't hurt him to broaden his social horizons a little.
"So that's Sandy?" Javier asked rhetorically as he began pouring dog food into the animals' designated bowls. Animal food was something they went through a lot of. He wasn't sure where it all came from, but was just glad he wasn't in charge of getting it.
"Sandy is your dog, I take it? Or are you just a big dog person?" Javier himself liked dogs well enough, but to him they seemed like a really plain choice of pet. Personally, he would rather have something like an iguana or tarantula.

"Relax, it's just me. Dogs need their chow, don't they?"
A dark eyebrow shot up in a quizzical fashion as Javier appeared. Thank God it was not Jack. The girl sighed in relief as she caught sight of the dog food on his shoulder and felt a smile tug at her lips when the dogs circled around him, eager for him to feed them. Sandy stayed by her side, wagging her tail. She had obviously seen Javier before, so that was a relief, but Sam kept quiet as Javier asked her some questions.
"Sandy is your dog, I take it? Or are you just a big dog person?"
"She's mine," she nodded, scratching the dog's ear as Sandy leaned into her touch. "Though, I like to think of myself as a dog person. I'm not that big you know," she joked, chuckling lightly as she gave Sandy a nudge and the dog went to go get some food.
She watched the other boy closely, seeing how he interacted with the animals. He seemed like an animal person, but then again who in the Animorphs wasn't? The girl got up, brushing herself off from the tackle she'd received earlier, and placed her hands in her pockets. Sam was still rather awkward around the new recruits, she really only talked to Jack, Kyle, Ashley and Eric, but it would not hurt to expand her horizons, would it?
"So, how are ya holding up?"." she asked, not entirely sure what to talk about at this point. It was always awkward when talking to someone you do not really know. Always.

Javier smiled at Sam's joke as he watched to make sure all the dogs were sticking to their own dishes. He only had to intervene a couple times to direct a couple of wandering appetites back to their own meals.
"I'm holding up alright," Javier finally said in reply to Sam's question. "I'm just glad we got Kyle back, ya know? And I'm really glad you made it back alright considering what happened. Not to mention all the new people we recruited." That whole fiasco had been quite the adventure.
All the dogs seemed to be behaving so Javier prepared to go by putting the leftover dog food in the nearby enclosure. This was his last stop for the day. He was about to say goodbye to Sam when a thought occurred to him.
"Are you busy right now?" He quickly realized it was an extremely vague question and hurried to clarify his intent. "I ask because I'm done for the day and, well, I thought maybe you could help me test something out. A morph. The feathered kind. You interested? Might need to climb up to the roof of the dog hut to morph though, so the dogs don't get agitated."
Earlier that day he had acquired an andean condor in order to keep it calm for a quick checkup. That was a bird you did not want flapping its wings in your face if you could help it. And now that its DNA was a part of Javier, he couldn't wait to see what being one was like.

"I'm holding up alright. I'm just glad we got Kyle back, ya know? And I'm really glad you made it back alright considering what happened. Not to mention all the new people we recruited."
Sam shuddered at the mention of what happened, instinctively rubbing her abdomen as she stared off blankly. That was probably one of the few times in her life that she had ever been that terrified. The fact that she felt so cold before she was able to focus enough to morph was disturbing, and she did not like the fact that she made Jack cry... That was the last thing she wanted to do...

"Nah, I'm not busy" she answered, snapped out of her thoughts by Javier's question. She shook her head to emphasize her statement and started towards the dog hut. "Come on, newbie. Let's see what awesome bird you chose," she smiled, rather interested in what kind of feathered friend Javier chose. She liked her eagle morph, personally, so she felt there was no need to have another one, but she was always intrigued when someone else got another one. It was good to have large birds of prey for a flying mission.
Climbing to the top of the doggie hut, the girl waited for Javier to get himself up and ready to morph. "Ready? Show me what you've got."

Javier climbed up to the roof behind Sam and took off his shirt and kicked off his shoes. It wouldn't do much good to morph a bird while wearing non-morphable clothing. "I hope you aren't too shy," he said before pulling down his jeans, leaving him wearing nothing but a pair of boxer briefs. Before he could get too self-conscious himself, Javier concentrated on his new morph.
The first change to happen was swelling. The bridge of Javier's nose poofed out into a knob of amorphous flesh. Quick to follow was his neck. It stretched and sagged until it felt like his skin might simply fall right off his face. It didn't, but the color did change to a dull purplish red, and his hair retreated back into his scalp.
Next were his legs. They thinned and shortened, causing the roof to rush up toward him. Javier's toes lengthened and spread, growing wicked nails at the same time. Then the feathers started.
In a fevered rush, the feather patterns etched themselves across Javier's skin and erupted into a plume of dark beauty. His entire body was covered, save for his head and legs. Now all that was left were the wings.
And what wings they were! Javier's arms stretched outward to both sides, each doubling in length. But as the last changes took place, he realized his enormous limbs weren't heavy at all. He was now half the height he was as a human, but twice the width. His ten and a half foot wingspan seemed even bigger when the wings were his own and not those of the bird he acquired.
<<Well... this is interesting. The animal mind seems easy enough to control anyway.>> Javier wasn't sure what else to say. He was still trying to take in his new features. Stretching his wings to their full expanse, he asked Sam, <<Well, what do you think?>> He was anxious to take to the air, but wasn't about to leave her behind.
