PERSONALITY: Joseph Carter was one of those types of people who started out with no real direction in life, so he drifted through life aimlessly along with the flow of the world. He never believed that he could make a real difference in someone’s life until he met someone that his brother had saved. He began to believe that anything is possible if one has enough faith in it, but he knows that faith alone is not going to save another person’s life. This is why he reads any sort of book that he can get his hands on in order to have some ideas about a variety of things.
His own personal views are that one needs faith, a plan to accomplish one’s goals and the confidence in his own ability to meet that goal. Joey will work hard to complete a task that is before him, and he will make sure that if anything dangerous comes up in his plan that he is the one that does. In his mind, Joey believes that only he is able to accomplish the hardest parts of any of his plans, but it really has to do with keeping others out of harm’s way.
While Joey won’t admit it to himself, he makes a pretty good leader in a tight situation as he will think of how to utilize every individual’s abilities in the success of the mission. He is a very intelligent sort of person who knows when to scrap a plan because it sounds too dangerous as well as how to improvise when the enemy throws him a curve ball, and Joey is not afraid to admit when someone else should lead a mission instead of himself.
Like most people, Joseph has a fatal flaw that most people don’t know about and that is his fear of using bug morphs, which really means that he is afraid of being alive while in his bug morph or any other small morph. He has had nightmares where he was digested by something while he was still conscious, and it seriously freaked him out. Other than that, Joey won’t deal with spiders due to a childhood event or idiots with guns who will shoot him in a spot that will cause him pain but not death.
BACKGROUND:
HOMETOWN: Salem, Oregon
HISTORY: Joseph Carter was born in Salem, Oregon to his two loving parents, Matthew and Evelyn. He had exactly six siblings with two being older and three being younger. As a child, his parents noted that Joey had no ambitions for anything, which worried his entire family. It wasn’t like Joey couldn’t go anywhere with the smarts that he had as he was making A’s in all of his classes, but he lacked the motivation to want to do anything. Most of his time in high school was spent contemplating whether or not he should get a job at Arby’s or McDonalds.
During his senior year, his eldest brother was killed while saving the lives of his fellow soldiers and some civilians, and Joey began to think that a life without trying to strive for something higher wasn’t so bad. It wasn’t until a young girl that his brother gave his life for came to visit the family to tell them how she was only alive because of his brother did Joey see how striving to be something could really be a life changing experience. After that meeting, Joey signed up for the United States Military, where he slowly worked up through the ranks.
He reached the rank of corporal three years after the invasion was over, which is also when he was chosen to join an international antiterrorist unit that was being trained by Jake Berenson. Of course, acceptance was his only option as being a member of such a group would allow him to save the lives of people from his planet and others. His training was cut short by Jake having to go an unauthorized mission that required volunteers from the group, but Joey wasn’t among those that were selected for. It wasn’t like there was a lack of missions that he needed to apply himself to, but Joey wondered what his life would have been like if he had been chosen to go with Jake.
A year after the mission was when the big, bad being known as The One arrived on Earth, and a new sort of war had begun. At the time, Joey was on a scheduled leave in his hometown. Working with the national guard as well as the locals, Joey did his best to use his morphing powers to resist the takeover of his hometown as well as his state, but things didn’t go as well as he hoped. The state was lost to the One’s forces, and Joey was forced to retreat to the state of Washington. During a battle to save this state, Joey ran into the newly founded group of Animorphs, who he quickly decided to join.

Whiz!
Joey ducked behind a busted up wall as bullets began to fly overhead as the enemy began to start their assault on the makeshift base. What remained of his platoon was holed up in a small village that was being assaulted on all sides, and they were running out of ammunition in a hurry. “Captain! We are taking heavy fire on the north side!”
This was one of those times that Joey didn’t mind the fact that he was only a corporal, but that didn’t change the danger of the situation any. He looked over at Captain Kowalski to see what his reaction to this news would be, but his superior officer was as calm as the woods during the winter. “Have all units fall back to center of town. We’ll make our final stand there!”
The private ran off without even a respectful goodbye, and Joey couldn’t blame the guy. This was one hectic battle, and the only way that they were going to be able to win was to catch the enemy by surprise. Of course, that wasn’t a real option for this particular rag tag group of soldiers as they didn’t have the numbers or the field advantage to perform such a movement.
“Corporal Carter! It is time for us to use our ace. Get you squad into position and capture the enemy while their focus is on us.” Joey hadn’t expected his Captain to order him to do such a maneuver as the squad lacked real practice performing such a movement, but he wasn’t going to survive this just to be court martialed for disobeying commands. “Sir, yes sir.”
Joey turned to the four troops that had the special patch of a blue cube on their shoulder and signaled for them to follow him. The five of them move through the streets as quickly as possible, and they then ducked into a house that had a ladder going to the roof on the inside. “Alright people, you have exactly five minutes to get down to morphing suits and into battle morphs, so I don’t want to see any one blushing. Jackson and Alvarez, the two of you will be aerial support for this.”
As soon as he said the word morph, the soldier began to strip off their military gear. It was something that they had practiced under several instances, but this was the first time that it had been during the middle of the battle. Within the first minute, three of them were already through the morphing process, which was what they needed to happen, and the three were Alvarez, Carson and Thompson who showed a better talent for morphing then the other three.
Carter’s body began to feel the changes as his teeth began to grow longer inside of his mouth right before his eyesight began to become better. The ears began to move to the top of the head while fur sprouted from his skin, which was his favorite part of the morph. For some reason, he enjoyed the thought of him becoming one of the most dangerous cats on the planet. The rest of his body began to go through the changes with limbs shrinking to fit the lion profile, a tail sprouting out from his behind, his hind legs reversing direction and his senses kicking into overdrive.
This being his favorite morph had meant that Carter had spent several hours going through the process of taking control of the body without the lion's instincts, so he was already ready to keep the wolf from attacking the others in the group.<<Everyone in control?>>
It was pretty weird that he was addressing a group of a Cooper’s hawk, a bald eagle, a skunk, a gorilla and a bull. They were more commonly known as Alvarez, Jackson, Thompson, Sanders and Carson. <<Alright then, Alvarez and Jackson get in the air. Sanders keep Thompson in your arms at all times. Carson, stay out in front. I’ll cover the rear. Understand? Good. Then let’s move out!>>
With that being said, Carson was at the door just as someone had pulled it open, which was bad for them as she charged like a rodeo bull that was bucking like crazy. <<She is really going to town on those guys, but I think it might be best if the rest of you take the ladder out. Not much room to walk now,>> Jackson reported from up above.
<<Sanders, get on the roof, and Thompson and you will come in from the western side of the attack. Alvarez will back you up. Jackson, you get to cover Carson and I.>> Joey didn’t say move out as they were already on their way, which he only knew because he could hear the sound of a gorilla hopping across rooftops.
Joey moved out into the street to see that Jackson’s report had been completely accurate as an entire group of enemy soldiers were now unconscious. There was a silent flickering of the tail to show that she had been unhurt by the men, so Joey headed in the direction of the gunfire. It was going to be a tough day for these soldiers who thought that they were fighting ordinary soldiers.
Didn’t want to go overboard with the rp sample. Hope you enjoyed this short part of what could be a great flashback.
