PERSONALITY: Richard is the type of person who everyone thinks is the reckless jock because of the way that he acts towards new situations. He always seems to rush into things without a plan, but in reality Richard always tries to think about something before doing it. Of course, most of the ideas that pop into his head are to try and use brute force to handle the situation, and even he will admit that it is not the best type of plan. There are times that he will agree that he should take it slow and try not to ruin a plan by jumping the gun, which is when he lets someone with some brains come up with the actual plan of attack. Richard also doesn’t want to embarrass himself by offering up ideas that everyone else knows to be completely wrong.
It isn’t like he is just a dumb person as Richard does know enough to get by, but he is definitely not someone who can give you a detailed explanation on the idea of alpha particles. What he lacks in brains, he makes up for in how he treats others. He is extremely loyal to his friends and will back them up in a situation even if he knows that it isn’t a good idea, but Richard takes betrayal pretty hard. It takes a long time for him to build back up a friendship with someone who has wronged him in some way, but he will continue to work with this person just to make sure that he or she doesn’t try a repeat performance.
BACKGROUND:
HOMETOWN: Miami, Florida
HISTORY: Being the youngest son out of three, Richard knew what it was like to get all the attention of his family, which came in both good and bad. His parents favored him for most of his childhood, which made his brothers, Jason and Daniel, pick on him more as they were ignored. It wasn’t that they didn’t get any attention, but his father, Carl, was a doctor that was on call for the better part of the week so he felt the need to spend more time with the youngest. Meredith, his mother, was a stay at home mother who spent most of the day playing with Richard.
By the time that he reached the age of five, Richard was ready to go to school, but his parents learned quickly that school wasn’t ready for him. The constant attention had amounted to Richard thinking that he deserved the teacher’s attention during the entire class period, and he did things just to make sure that she kept her eyes on him. He would draw on the table, put glue on people’s seats, yell during story time and even run around the classroom. All of this led to something new happening for Richard, and that was he got punished for the first time.
This was something new for him, and Richard wasn’t sure how to handle being put in time out. His parents explained to him that now that he was getting older that he needed to learn to control his actions as he was not the center of everyone’s universe, so he shouldn’t expect everyone to watch his every move. It took a couple of years for this concept to take root in his brain, but Richard was a normal kid that didn’t like school any more than the other kids in his class.
It had definitely been a trying time for him, but an even worse one came when Richard got to third grade. He had seen a couple of kids picking on this one boy, and Richard decided to get involved. It ended up with him coming home with a black eye and a note saying that he was suspended for the rest of the week. What the note didn’t say was that Richard had tried to get the other kids to leave the boy alone and ended up tackling the biggest one when they didn’t. After that day, Richard pestered his parents into letting him taking karate, which they said no.
By the time that he reached the fourth grade, his parents realized that their son was not doing as well as his older brothers had been at this point in their schooling, so they agreed that Meredith would tutor him. Richard decided to turn a parental decision into a negotiation by offering that he will agreed to being tutored if he can start taking karate, and for some reason his parents agreed to it. There was probably some thought that if he was taking karate and being tutored throughout the week then he wouldn’t be doing anything mischievous.
The arrangement seemed to work until Richard broke another kid’s nose because the boy was trying to push a girl off of the monkey bars. It led to a two week suspension and a withdrawal from karate for the remainder of the year, but it didn’t make Richard angry as he had known that he had done the right thing. His mother made sure that he kept up with his classwork by simulating his classroom schedule at home, and one would think that he would get ahead of his class but it took longer for his mother to get the ideas across during these two weeks instead of reaffirming the points that the teacher usually taught him.
Fifth and sixth grade were pretty much filled with the same sort of antics except that Richard didn’t break anyone’s bones as he had gained more control over what he did, and he began to use up most of his energy in tournaments that his parents talked him into. Seventh grade was when the really interesting thing happened as Richard started noticing the girls around him, but he had a weird taste in his eldest brother’s opinion. He seemed to hang out with the girls that were interested in the same things that he was like martial arts, and that was how he began dating this girl Rebecca. She didn’t look like the type of girl who didn’t mind mixing it up, but the girl was more of a scrapper than Richard was. Around this time, the Yeerk invasion was brought to an end, and he was completely surprised by how a group of kids had stopped the invasion. There was also a moment where he wondered if anyone he knew had been a controller, but he figured that it wasn't important now.
The two of them dated for about three years, and halfway through their relationship Rebecca convinced Richard that taking Mixed Martial Arts would be a better fit for someone his size. He began taking lessons at a gym in Miami. The two of them were practically inseparable unless they had to go to different class, but then the most unexpected thing happened. Rebecca’s dad got a job in Seattle, so her family was moving there. It was a depressing time for both of them, but they both decided that ending their relationship was the best choice for both of them as long distance relationships were too painful. Shortly after she left, Richard heard about something happening near where Rebecca was living, but he never got any concrete information on it and his parents refused to let him fly there on his own.
The remaining three years of Richard high school education were spent taking the remaining classes that were required for graduation as well as some more odd ones like home ec., art, and psychology. His summers were spent in the Colorado Rockies learning how to rock climb. He didn’t date anyone seriously after Rebecca, but he did continue going to his mixed martial lessons. Halfway through his senior year, Rebecca stopped sending him letters, and Richard became concerned that something was wrong but his dad told him that she had probably just gotten busy since it was her last year of high school. He finished out his high school with a ‘B’ average, which was better than he had hoped for. He spent the next year working as a waiter during the day and a grocer at night, which was mainly to help him save up enough money for a plane ticket and an apartment.
By his nineteenth birthday, Richard had saved up enough that he left Florida and headed for Seattle to see if he could reconnect with Rebecca who he hadn’t heard of in quite some time. He had been worried that something had happened to her, so he made himself a promise to check in on her as soon as he had enough money to do so. His hope was that she was fine and that her letters had gotten lost in the mail, but Richard had a bad feeling that something awful had happened to her.

If any day could be ironically annoying, then it would be today in Bobby’s opinion as it was almost thirty degrees outside with no snow in sight, which was odd for the middle of December. Where people should be ice skating, there was a watery surface that had leaves floating on top of it. Kids were staring at the water with depressing looks that would make even the warmest of people feel blue, and there was Bobby in a slightly underdressed getup for such a cold day wondering what the world was coming to. He had heard on the news that warmer areas had been covered in a blanket of white, but for some reason New York was getting none of that.
While he wasn’t bothered by the lack of snow, there was one little girl who was carrying a pair of ice skates, and they looked new to Bobby. She was asking her mommy when she was going to be able to use her skates, and she began to cry when her mommy said that it didn’t look like anyone was going to get to go skating since there was no ice. Being the nice guy that he was, Bobby could not let a young girl cry for another minute, so he walked up to her and bent down on one knee.
“Do you want to see a magic trick?”
The little girl had this perplexed look on her face, and her mother sort of looked at him like he was a creeper. He kept on smiling to before deciding that he should give them a hint at what he was talking about.
“I have this trick that turns water into ice if you are interested.”
The little girl’s face lit up like someone offered her the keys to a candy store. She began to nod her head yes. Bobby already knew what the mother was thinking, and that was he was going to disappoint her daughter by not being able to pull off this trick. He was going to be more than glad to show her that she was wrong, so he walked up to the edge of the pond and took off one of his gloves.
“Now to say the magical words. Alakazing. Alakacries. This water will freeze right before their eyes.”
With his little act being done, Bobby let loose a wave of cold from his hand that began to freeze the surface of the pond to the point that people could skate on it without fear of falling through. He turned back to the girl, who was already putting her skates on. Everyone else was beginning to comment on what they had just seen, while remaining focused on the pond. Seeing his chance at disappearing without a trace, Bobby disappeared from the area before someone began asking one too many questions.
