Jack got confirmation from the girl that she was ready. She didn't ask any questions, which was good. They didn't have any time for questions. They had to get moving, controllers would be on them at any minute. "Okay, good. Let's get moving then," he told her. He then started to lead her to the pick-up point. It wasn't long afterwords that controllers where on their tail. More showed up from another direction and unfortunately were gaining on them quite fast. A fight looked to be unavoidable. Normally, this wasn't a problem, however it wasn't just the three of them. They had someone else to worry about.
Kyle than suggested that he could lead some of them away. He didn't especially like the idea and Jack knew Ashley wouldn't like it at all, but they didn't really have any other options. "Yeah, lead them away from us. Come back the minute you give them the slip." he told Kyle. They didn't need to do anything crazy, they just needed to get out of here. He put his two fingers back against his earpiece. "Eric, any chance you can hurry up here?" he asked him. We're going as fast as we can. We'll be there soon. Eric sounded annoyed, and Jack couldn't blame him. Unfortunately, it took time to prepare the ship, it wasn't instantaneous. They would have to hold out the best they could.

Is it always this dangerous? --
There were more people coming, more people chasing after them than that one guy. Rue, not one to hide how she was feeling too often, wore her fear. Her eyes were wide as she just kept running, not knowing what else to do. She wasn't a fighter-- she didn't know the first thing about fighting really. The Animorphs might have, but there were only two of them from what she could see. Could they really fight off a bunch of people like that? It'd be rather dangerous for them to do that. Besides, they couldn't count on her to fight back; though, they probably knew that.
Darn her for getting them into this position. This was her fault. No, now that Animorph was going off to lead them away from her and the guy. Completely her fault, but it was just like her to cause trouble. Although, she knew that no matter what, she was glad she resisted Dave's commands. She didn't know what they were trying to do. She didn't know why these people were all attacking them. She looked to the guy now, her fear still extremely evident. Wasn't there something she could do though? Couldn't she help out somehow?
"Do we just keep running?" she asked the guy, and then decided to ask him another question, "Didn't catch your name by the way-- what is it?" It was rather rude of her to keep calling him "that guy" after all, even if it was only mentally.

Ashley... forgive me. Jack gave him the go ahead to try and lead them away, though. So the dog made a sudden turn down an alley and then bolted back out and through the crowd of controllers. They tried to grab him, but he slipped through. He’d stayed toward the side anyways, because they were mostly in the center. Regardless of that, most of them turned around and followed Kyle back the way they’d come from. A few still followed Rue and Jack, but not more than Jack would be able to handle somehow. He could somehow hold those from getting the girl until Eric could show up. Kyle would do his best to lose the ones on his tail… no pun intended.
He dodged down the street, ducking down streets and alleys. He wasn’t sure how many he’d lost yet, but it seemed like the group had gotten smaller. <Ashley, let me know when Eric shows up. Just in case I’m still trying to ditch these guys. I’ll just make my way back anyways and hopefully lose them on the way.> He knew she was going to be pissed at him, but hopefully she’d still do that for him. Actually, she probably would just to be sure this idea wouldn’t get him in trouble. If this plan works, she can be as mad as she wants for as long as she wants. All that will matter is that we survived.

Jack watched Kyle run off leading away most of the controllers. He looked and saw there were still three controllers chasing him. He could take care of them if need be. He hoped Ashley wouldn't end up being too angry with either of them, it was the only option at this point. He then heard the girl ask if they keep running. "Do you want them to catch you?" he asked her dryly. It wasn't very helpful, but he couldn't help it, he was frustrated. "Sorry. We have a bit further to run and then we'll have to hold our position til our way out gets here,"
The girl then asked for his name, which he figured could wait. They had reached the pick-up point. There was no sign of Eric yet. "We're here," he said to the girl and stopped running, turning around to face the controllers chasing them. Three of them huh? Shouldn't be too much trouble. "Stay back," he told the girl as he got ready to face off against the controllers. "Eric, can you give me an estimate as to when you'll get here?" he asked over his earpiece. "I'm going to say 5 minutes. Maybe sooner, no probably sooner. I'll give you 10 bucks if I take longer than that," Jack smirked. Eric typically wasn't wrong, so they really did have 5 minutes before they could get out of here.
That was also plenty of time to take care of these controllers. They had finally caught up to them. He looked back at the girl. "Name's Jack. We can do proper introductions later," he told her, before running towards the nearest controller and punching him in the face. The controller went down hard. That was one down. One of the remaining controllers aimed for him and Jack moved out of the way easily, punching him out as well. Unfortunately, the last controller had grown a brain. Jack felt something cold against his head. This one had a dracon beam to his head. "You're coming with me," the controller told him. Jack should've seen that one coming, but he wasn't worried yet. After all he wasn't alone.

Ashley was not happy as she watched her twin suddenly dart down an alley and then back through the pack of controllers. Kyle led most of the controllers away from Jack and the girl, so in a lot of ways the plan had worked out and he’d never failed to come back to them. She was mad though. He hadn’t even said a word to her about. She’d known, all along she’d known what he was thinking. He’d gotten the go-ahead from Jack, though, and hadn’t said one word to her until it was too late. Maybe she was a little protective of him now, but she’d lost so much time with him when she’d lived her life as a puppet to society. She didn’t want to lose him so soon after she’d gotten him back.
She heard his thought voice and sighed. <Fine. I’ll let you know. I’m going to try and keep an eye on you too, but if Jack needs me…>Well, Jack was the priority. While a kill shot would be fatal to either of the twins, any less deadly blow could be morphed away just by demorphing. Jack would have to morph and then demorph, and that would take more time. Ashley would either need to cover him while he did that or make sure that there was no need for him to morph away an injury.
She flew above him, watching as he and the girl got to the pick-up spot and then turned to stand their ground. Jack managed to dispatch two controllers, but the third and final one decided to be intelligent. He’d forgotten one thing, though. There were more than two Animorphs. They commonly traveled with the system of two on the ground and one keeping watch from the sky. This guy clearly hadn’t figured that out or had very conveniently forgotten, because he didn’t even see her coming. She dived out of the sky and flew at his face, trying to scratch or peck at it as she hovered in front of his face. His instinctive reaction was to swing his hands at her, thus removing the dracon beam from Jack’s head.
Sucker. You fell for my distraction. This was a thought to herself as she dodged his hands and swooped back upward, his gaze and his weapon following her. This guy may have been smart, but not smart enough. He’d clearly forgotten he had more targets than the pesky raven that he was now focusing all his attention on. He might try to shoot her, but probably wouldn’t succeed before Jack took care of him.

This is either going to be really stupid or... yeah I'm banking on stupid. --
All right, stupid question; they had to keep running. Rue did that no problem, getting to that point or whatever Jack talked about-- that was his name, right? Yeah. Unfortunately, nothing was at said point to pick them up. She looked for a car or something, but nothing was there. That meant they had to fight these guys off until then since the dog had gone off in some other direction. This couldn't possibly go well. Jack was fine against one guy, but three? And Rue couldn't really do anything other than stay back like he said.
Like hell she was going to stand here and do nothing. But really, what could she do? It seemed like Jack had it covered for the most part, knocking one of them down. And another. Yeah, he could handle himself. She was fine. She didn't need t-- that one had a gun. Or something that looked like a gun anyway. It didn't really matter what it was right now; if someone didn't do something, Jack was either going to get killed or get taken away.
Or a raven could dive at that man's face out of nowhere. Was that another Animorph then? How many were there around here? Or maybe that was the dog and he morphed into something else. Did it work like that? Either way, the gun thing was no longer at Jack's head and the man was distracted by the bird. She could do something now. He was even facing away from her right now. She had a clear shot.
This was probably going to be one of her stupidest moments if it didn't work. Didn't really matter. Ignoring Jack's previous order of "Stay back", she ran straight to the guy, her right hand curled up in a fist. That fist met the back of the guy's head, sending him to the ground as fast as gravity would allow. Knocked out cold. He even fell on his face for good measure; fantastic. Maybe she could actually do something besides stand around.

As if on cue, Ashley had suddenly dived at the controller's face. Jack now didn't have a dracon beam aimed at his head any more, which was a relief. He was about to go ahead and knock this controller out now, but he was beaten to the punch. That girl had come over and punched the controller in the back of the head, knocking him out. It was quite a nice punch. "Thanks," he managed to say to the girl after a moment of shock had passed. He then looked to the air. "Thank you too for the back up, Ash" he said to the raven flying in the sky.
With the controllers now knocked out, they could relax for a bit. They still needed to wait for Eric as well as Kyle. "Alright, we're landing now," Jack suddenly heard in his ear. Good, that meant they could get out of here soon. Nothing seemed to be around just yet and then all of a sudden a ship appeared nearby, having landed ready to be boarded. He grinned as he turned to the girl. "Our ride is here," he said to her motioning for her to head for the ship.
As he waited for the girl to board the ship, Jack looked back to the sky. "How's Kyle doing?" he asked towards Ashley. They needed to make sure he got back to the ship, but they couldn't risk it being down here for very long. Hopefully he was already on his way back.

How is Kyle doing?
Kyle was doing… mostly ok. He hadn’t really thought much on the concept of the controllers having dracon beams, but as he ran from them several pulled the devices out and began firing at him. He had no clue how the others were doing holding out against the few controllers that hadn’t followed him, though he didn’t picture they were having a hard time. He hadn’t heard anything yet about Eric being on his way. He didn’t worry about it too much, though. He’d lost a number of the controllers, but still had a fair number to get off his tail. That was his main focus... that and not getting shot or caught.
A dracon blast flew past him on one side and he turned the other way, darting down any alley. It was a move that lead him straight into a problem. He skidded to a stop as a wire fence stretched across the alley in front of him. He wasn’t sure if the controller had known this part of the city better, and had purposefully tried to get him down here, or if it had just been a case of sheer, dumb luck. Whatever it was, he was in trouble.
<Ash, how do I get out of here?> He stood with his back to the fence and growled at the controllers. He wasn’t sure, but he didn’t think trying to dart past them was going to work a second time. He needed help to get out of this.
Then it happened. They must have called for back-up again, this time of a special kind. A loop of leash went over his head and tightened against his neck. Someone had come up to the fence behind him and slid a pole it was attached to through one of the holes in it. As he struggled, somewhat pointlessly unless he could get the pole out of the controllers grip, he shouted out mentally. <Jack!? Ash!? Help!>

<Not a problem, Jack.> Ashley told him as she heard his thank you. <Oh, and I’m definitely liking this girl. She isn’t afraid to fight back.> She’d seen the way the girl had knocked out the final controller. It was rather impressive. Even before they’d come along, she hadn’t been playing the damsel in distress. She’d been trying to fight back. She kind of hoped this girl would want to join them.
As Ashley flew back upward, she tried to track down her brother’s location. It was one of the downsides of having helped Jack, she’d lost sight momentarily of Kyle. She could see the ship below, and heard Jack ask how Kyle was. <I’m trying to track him down. I lost sight of him for a bit after helping you out.> That wouldn’t be a problem though… would it?
<Ash, how do I get out of here?> That didn’t sound good. <I can’t see you, Kyle. Just hold on for a moment.> He could do that. Kyle could hold his own against whatever controllers were left. She still hadn’t tracked him down and was starting to panic when she spotted the dog in the dead-end alley, just moments before disaster struck. <Jack!? Ash!? Help!> Despite that she didn’t really need to, she thought-spoke to Jack. <Jack, they got Kyle!>

Jack smirked to himself at Ashley's comment. That was definitely a plus, this girl hadn't been some damsel in distress. She had managed to have his back which was appreciated. He would've replied back to Ashley, but didn't exactly want to go talking about this girl right in front of her. Jack waited as Rue started to head onto the ship, Ashley telling him that she was looking for Kyle. "C'mon, Kyle. We can't wait too much longer," he muttered under his breath, keeping an eye out himself just in case. However, what he heard next wasn't good.
He heard Kyle's panicked thought-speak and Ashley's after that both indicating Kyle was in trouble. He tried to keep calm, after all they still had some time to save him right? "Jack we have a problem!" he suddenly heard in his ear. "We got controllers converging on our location. Faster and sooner than anticipated. We need to leave, NOW! Or we forfeit The Sanctuary." Crap. That wasn't what they needed right now. They couldn't risk losing The Sanctuary. Even for Kyle.
He didn't want to give the order, but he had too. "Ash...we can't. Eric just told me controllers are almost here, we can't risk losing The Sanctuary," he said, not liking the words coming out himself. "We need to leave!" Jack pressed two fingers against his earpiece. "Eric, we can track his earpiece once he demorphs right?" he asked. "Yeah, I should be able to do that. I can't track anything while he's morphed, but once he's human again I should be able to track it," That was better than nothing. It was really their only option right now. "Ash, tell Kyle to demorph once they take him to wherever they'll take him! We'll go after him then, I promise!" he yelled out towards Ash. He then headed into the ship. He didn't like this at all, but they didn't have much of a choice.

No.... No, she couldn't - she wouldn't - leave Kyle behind. In theory they could save him, but... what if they didn't? And yet... There are other people besides Kyle I need to worry about. I can't sacrifice the many to save the one. I have to... She had to sacrifice Kyle, had to take the risk, or other people would suffer for it. These thoughts went through her mind in a matter of moments, and as much as she didn't want to do what Jack had said... This is the first time it's come to this, Ashley, and you know that Jack doesn't like it any more than you do. Eric too probably. None of you want to leave him, but you don't have a choice.
<Kyle, we need to go. We're going to lose The Sanctuary to controllers if we don't get out of here now.> Now came the hard part, and she told herself she wouldn't let him know through her voice how much it was killing her to say this. <Jack and I will find you, I promise. Demorph when you get to wherever they're taking you. Eric can track your earpiece once you're human.> This wasn't how she wanted it, but this was how it had to be for them to all make it out of this. Kyle will be ok. She just had to keep telling herself that.
She flew down to The Sanctuary and through the open hatch of the ship. <Let’s get this show on the road. I told Kyle what to do. As soon as we get a signal from his earpiece, we’re figuring out how to get him back.> That last sentence was more of a demand than anything, but Eric and Jack would hopefully understand her feelings. The new girl… well, once she figured out the relation between Ashley and the boy that had been the Labrador, she probably would understand too.

This is bad, isn't it? --
Okay, so this was Jack, and the raven was Ash-- most likely short for something. And that was their ride. Really? That ship was their ride? Rue gaped at it for a few seconds before she heard the command to go inside. All of this was just too fast. She walked onto the ship, looking around the interior as she waited for the Animorphs to come in. They were going to leave these people that were attacking them behind, and then go... somewhere else. She still didn't really know where they were going.
What was taking them so long though? No Rue, be patient. They would get out of here soon enough. She was left standing there, not sure what to do. Really, what could she do? She may have just punched someone in the back of the head, but how much use would that be in the long run? It wasn't as if she was going to become an Animorph, right? They would bring her to safety, more than likely, and then each would go back to their separate lives.
But, would she truly be able to go back to normality after this?
Either way, the look on Jack's face when he came into the ship wasn't a happy one. "Something happen?" she asked, probably naïvely. The raven flew onto the ship shortly after Jack, seemingly talking to him somehow. Then, the ship started moving. Wait a second, where was the Labrador? He was an Animorph too? Were they just leaving him behind? What was happening?!
"Are you leaving him behind for a reason?" she asked, now probably sounding impetuous. She attempted to remedy that by adding, "Sorry for all of this trouble, but... never mind. I'll shush now." She didn't really have a choice now but to go along with what was happening. She was fine with that, or at least sort of. She'd find out what was going on eventually, right? [/font]

As he struggled to free himself, he heard a message from Ash that had been probably the last thing he'd expected her to say. He'd thought for sure they'd ask him where his location was, tell him to hold on until they got there. As much as he didn’t like that they were leaving him, as much as he wanted them to save him, he couldn’t help but understand what they were doing. He was a leader too, after all. He knew how hard this call would be for them to make, but he knew they were making it for the good of the whole team. They couldn’t risk them all getting caught and losing the ship they had planned so long to obtain, all over saving him. They were making a call that was hard, yes, but that needed to be made.
He tried to let this understanding show in his voice when he told Ash, <I understand. Get out of there. I’ll see you later.> A part of him wasn’t so confident about seeing them later. A part of him feared that the next time he saw them he would be a controller, a player for the other side. Or maybe he wouldn’t even see them. Maybe he’d get taken to the being known as “The One” and just never be seen again. Maybe he’d be killed… though that last option honestly seemed a little doubtful if these were regular yeerks. They wouldn’t kill an Animorph. There was too much potential for such a host.
Whatever the case might be, he had to keep hoping that it would turn out the way Ashley said. He’d follow the plan and hope that everything else went as they thought it would. If something went wrong… well, he could cross that bridge when he came to it… Hopefully.

Jack waited until he saw Ashley fly into the ship. The ship had begun to take off as he waited. They couldn't wait much longer. Soon he saw Ashley fly by and pretty much demanding that they would figure out how to get him back. "We will, Ash. We will," he reassured as he followed, the hatch closing behind him as he walked inside. He didn't like this anymore than Ashley did. It was killing him inside, in fact, to make a call like that. But their lives weren't more important than the lives of those on The Sanctuary. They relied on the ship too much to risk losing it.
As he walked up, the girl they had saved was asking him about Kyle. Then she promptly stopped talking. "We have no choice. We can't risk the lives of the people on-board for one person," he said reluctantly, clearly unhappy with the choice. "We'll get him back. We will," His last words were more reassurance for himself rather than for anyone else. After all for all they knew Kyle would be a controller or even be absorbed by The One by the time they got to him. Jack couldn't think like that though, they would only have one priority once the ship was safe and they got a lock on to the earpiece signal. They would save Kyle.
