Efflit watched through Shiro's eyes with curiosity as the animorph went from leopard to human form. The woman surrendered when the last of her changes occurred. Efflit then stepped boldly forward and examined her with human eyes for the first time. <<She certainly doesn't look like much,>> Efflit commented to Shiro. <<Neither do you,>> Shiro retorted. It was a fair point, but Efflit didn't appreciate being compared to this foolish excuse of a girl. "Now what?" the male captive asked. Efflit started, having almost forgotten that the other two captives were even there as he observed the animorph. "Now what?" Efflit said, throwing the boy's question back at him. He put Shiro's hand up to his chin quizzically and took a moment to examine the situation. "Now I think we gain some information." Efflit paced around the animorph as he studied her a bit more. A plan was forming in his mind. "I don't expect any of you to speak truthfully to me, so I won't even bother to ask you questions. However, all three of you surely have information that is extremely valuable to me. Luckily for me, I was blessed enough to be born with certain fact-gathering skills." Efflit tapped Shiro's head, pointing to his own body within. "Now," he said to the two who were presumably non-animorphs, "you two I can have infested by any of my underlings who are awaiting a host body. They will happily divulge all of your secrets to me by word of mouth, should I ask. But this one... This morpher's secrets I will need to experience first hand. They are too important to my work to be outsourced to one of my brethren." Efflit took a few steps back from the prisoners and addressed his underlings. "Keep them secure. I am going to morph into yeerk form, then you," he said, pointing to his most trusted accomplice, "bring me to the animorph's ear." His plan received looks of surprise, but his underlings knew better than to question his judgement. <<That's a tricky ploy, Efflit,>> Shiro commented. <<But haven't you overlooked the fact that I have never acquired a yeerk morph?>> <<You are about to acquire a yeerk, Mr. Shigure,>> Efflit replied to his host. <<You are about to acquire me.>> The andalite morphing technology was a curious thing. All that was required for acquiring a morph was physical contact and concentration. Efflit was firmly wedged within the creases of Shiro's brain, so contact was not an issue. However, concentration in this case was peculiar. A being on Shiro's brain needed to force Shiro to concentrate on the creature that was forcing him to concentrate. And the peculiarness was only magnified when the acquiring trance began to take effect... It was a numbness. Like a haze had rolled in and saturated his body. Shiro noticed the change immediately, but it still took a moment to realize what it was. It was free will. Partially, anyway. Efflit's hold was still there, but weak enough that Shiro could resist. Weak enough that Shiro could take action. But it would only last a few moments. He would have to act fast if he planned to act at all. Almost without thinking, Shiro raised his dracon beam and pulled the trigger in one swift motion. Once. Twice. Three times. Two controllers by the animorph and one next to the other humans were neutralized. Permanently. "Stand down!" he ordered as he crumpled the face of another controller with the butt of his weapon. "Release the prisoners!" He doubted the confusion he was creating would last for more than a few seconds, but then again, a few seconds was all he had anyway...

I am really, really confused. --
She felt herself shaking, unable to stop herself. There wasn't a question in her mind about what was going to happen next. The Yeerks were going to use her for information or capture her or something. They might kill her too when everything was done. Oh God, what the hell had she done? Everything the Animorphs worked so hard for, and she ruined it because she had to show off and be a leopard. She hadn't even done it to save the girl at that point. She had done it because she wanted to show she was unique, or something stupid like that.
She was going to keep going in these circles until she heard what the Yeerk had to say. He wanted information out of everybody and was going to get it by force since they'd all lie. Rue bit into the bottom of her lip. Yeerk in their head. Yeerks. In. Their. Heads. Little tiny slugs that would just crawl into her hear and-- she didn't want to think about it. It just sounded a little too gross right now, and her stomach was already in bad shape because of her nerves. All of them were going to get a Yeerk in the ear to get them information.
And she was going to get lead Yeerk. Great. She closed her eyes, ready for the Yeerk to crawl into her ear at any point and be slimy and disgusting and all sorts of other things.
Rue didn't expect to hear the dracon beams, and then see lead Controller guy shooting people when she opened her eyes. Weren't those his men? What in the hell was he doing? And he was telling his men to release him?! She was confused, and that look was easy to read as she looked from him to her new friends and back to him again. What?! Just... wait a minute. Opportunity to get out of this. They could get out of this.
"Guys we need to run. Now," she said. "If we don't, he's gonna do something." Without thinking twice, she started running, not knowing what direction she was going in but not caring. [/font]

He'd had to ask what was happening next. It was like asking if things could possibly get worse. You didn't really want to find out the answer, but you asked all the same. You asked because you were curious. You asked because you couldn't stand not knowing. Having the question spat back in his face was the least of Blake's worries when the answer came. "Now I think we gain some information."The things that happened next were like parts of a puzzle that wouldn't fit together well in Blake's head. None of it made sense. They didn't line up, weren't logical, but they were happening all the same. It wasn't so much the part where he was telling them he was going to infest them. That made perfect sense. It still left Blake wondering which of the groups of yeerks this one served, because either would want the information in their heads, but it didn't confuse him. That didn't say he liked it, though. If looks could kill, his would have. His instinct would be to protect Savannah, to make sure she wasn't infested. He'd promised she'd only be infested over his dead body... but if he resisted now that would very likely be the case. Blake didn't close his eyes, but it wasn't his turn to be infested yet. The guy didn't think he and Savannah were important enough to warrant him searching their heads. They could be infested by someone else and all their secrets would be spilled. He could wait for them. Rue, the Animorph, she was something special. Something worth getting his own hands dirty for. Blake actually felt sorry for her. It was odd, mostly because he barely knew her and had no reason to care, but as it had turned out she was on their side. If he could save her, get her back to her team, then maybe there was some hope left for humanity. Because the Animorphs were still a threat, a thorn in the yeerks' side. It wasn't something he'd have put much hope in before now... which maybe was an odd thing to say. That was when all hell broke loose. Everything seemed to be flipped upside down as the controller began shooting his own men, began shouting for them to run. It took a few minutes for Blake to actually react, took Rue's voice to make him realize that they weren't out of the woods yet. He couldn't stand and marvel at the way things had gone topsy turvy, because he had to take advantage of it. He grabbed Savannah's hand. "Come on, let's go!" He felt like he was practically dragging her as he took off, following Rue because they stood more chance of fighting anything that tried to stop them if they stayed a team for now. As they ran he tried to talk to Rue and Sav. "Any ideas how we get them off our tails?"

Shiro's heart leaped for joy as he saw the prisoners finally take off at a run. In his brief bought of freedom, any damage he could do to the aliens who had enslaved him against his will would be a feat that would feel like a great accomplishment. And allowing an animorph escape, not to mention the other two prisoners, would certainly qualify as damage. And speaking of damage... Most of Efflit's underlings were now focusing on Shiro, trying to decide weather they should shoot at him, or trying to get into a position where they could. However, Shiro was currently using the controller who's face he had smashed in as a living shield. Unfortunately three of the four underlings still opposing him decided to take it upon themselves to chase after the prisoners instead. Shiro aimed under the armpit of his body-shield and shot one of them in the back. He aimed for another, but the shot went wild as his arm twitched. Efflit was starting to regain control. Knowing his brief moment of control was at its end, Shiro let go of his living shield and pointed his weapon at his own head and pulled the trigger. TSSSEEEWWW!"Ahhhrrahhh!" Efflit couldn't help but scream out in pain as he looked at the cauterized stump where his right forearm used to be. Before he managed to get a hold of himself, the underling who shot him pinned him to the ground and had a dracon beam pressed firmly against Shiro's skull. "What is the meaning of this!?" his underling asked, her voice saturated with confusion and rage. "Explain yourself!" "You fool," he replied. "I was put into an acquiring trance as my host acquired me. My actions were not my own." Gravel grated against his cheek as he spoke. "Now let me up before I invoke The One!" It was a lie, of course, but she still let him up. Cautiously. And her weapon never stopped pointing at his head. "Orders?" she asked. "Track the escapees with the others. I'll catch up as soon as I repair this." Efflit held up his damaged arm that was still throbbing with intense pain. It was only his ability to distance himself from that part of Shiro's mind that was allowing him to continue concentrating through the pain at all. As soon as his underling left to follow her orders, Efflit concentrated on his only large-scale battle morph. The elephant seal.

Corridors and Fire Escapes
Blake and Savannah had joined her in running-- thank God. Rue wouldn't know what to do with herself if she had let them get captured; her leaders might though, and it wouldn't be pretty. Right now though, they were free for a second before the others started following them, and Lead Yeerk was back to being Lead Yeerk. How did that shift even happen? One minute he was trying to infest her, and the next he did a complete one eighty. It didn't even make any sense whatsoever.
Blake asked her if she had any ideas. Right, none of the other leaders were here, meaning she had to come up with something to get rid of these guys. "Uh..." she started, thinking. Morphing would take too much time, and that would expose her further-- even though flying out of here sounded really good right about now. Splitting up wouldn't be good either since there were more of them. They could try and lose them, find somewhere where the Yeerks wouldn't think to go.
"I've got half of an idea," she told Blake, turning her head back just a second. Yep, they were following. "Morphing won't do any of us any good right now, and there's more of them than there are of us." And while Blake had a weapon, he was the only one that could fight them off even a little bit. "If we can find somewhere where the Yeerks will have a harder time going after us, that'd be good. Alleys, sewers, subway-- some place we can run through and hide out for a bit. Your turn for ideas." So there wasn't any turning and fighting, and the girl's power wasn't going to help them out any. Blake thought he could deal with that. At least she had something of an idea, even if it wasn't really fully formed. They were going to have to kind of make this up as they went anyways. Fortunately, when it came to sewers and subways he and Savannah were a big help. Those were the very ways their group of rebels slipped around the city. "Subways or sewers would be better. It makes it harder for them to follow us if we go underground. Alleys... unless you really know the area like the back of your hand, you're as likely to hit a dead end one as anything. It's too big of a chance." When they were running like this, he didn't have the time to think clearly. Carelessness lead to mistakes, and those were less likely to be deadly if they got underground. He glanced to Savannah, because she always seemed to have better bearings than him when it came to getting around the city. "Where's the nearest entrance to any sort of tunnel system?" "The manhole we came out of to get here is this way," she said, pointing down a side street. Blake half followed, half dragged her that way and hoped that Rue noticed where they'd gone. Their voices would have alerted her to what they were up to, so chances were they wouldn't lose her. The manhole was at the halfway point, and Savannah stopped to kneel down and wrestle it open. Being the only one with a weapon, Blake didn't figure he could really afford to try and help. He had to cover their tails at least long enough to get them all underground. He stopped a short distance from the cover and turned back with his gun ready, glancing over his shoulder to see how Savannah was coming and whether any controllers were coming the other way down the alley. "Quick, Sav. I can't hold them off long if they catch up."
